I could hear the wind and rain pounding on the bedroom window as I sank deeper into the blankets. The weather was just plain miserable, but here I was, all cozied up and ready to sip my sleepy tea and drift off into a comfortable sleep.

Writing is something that I simply enjoy doing. Because I like writing, I like reading and discovering new ideas (at least for me) to write about. Maybe a new concept or insight that’s fresh, and I want to share that with everyone else.

I took my daughter Madylynn on a horseback riding and camping trip a few years ago. I got some firewood from a buddy knowing we’d need a campfire for food in the evening (aka S’mores). I thought I had grabbed enough, but that evening, I quickly discovered I had miscalculated.

After World War II, Allied soldiers gathered the homeless children inside camps to care for them. The kids in the camps were well cared for and fed abundantly. But there was a problem once bedtime came around. Fear seemed to grip them. They were restless and struggled to sleep.

Not too long ago, I struggled with a Monday morning doubt session. Are you familiar with those at all? I don’t have them often, and I don’t consider myself a doubting kinda guy. There are just times throughout the rhythm of life when doubts mount a full-on advance against my feeble mind and heart.

There’s an old insurance commercial of a little serene girl and a raging rhinoceros in an African plain. The rhino is in a full head-on-charge collision with the girl. Yet the look on the girl’s face is clear. She has this glint in her eye and a smile on her face.

I enjoy being a kids’ pastor. I love teaching them and being able to help them grasp truths from God. Often, what I’m teaching them comes as a reminder to me. Along with that reminder can also come conviction on something I’ve not followed through on. That’s the scoop this week.
